Drilled News is an independent news outlet focused on climate accountability.

With Plastic Solutions Fund support, Drilled News’ multimedia investigative journalism project — Plastic Pandemic — will highlight how the the oil, gas and petrochemical companies are leveraging the COVID-19 pandemic to increase the use of single-use plastics. They will also document industries efforts to roll back hard-won behavioral changes around the use of plastic, weaken regulations for plastic manufacturing, and fast-track the construction of new plastic plants that aim to make use of the natural gas glut in the U.S.

Via digital and audio reporting, they will reveal how the industry’s lobbying efforts could result not only in worsening the plastic crisis, but also exacerbate the climate crisis.
