Stopped at the Source: Halting the Flood of New Plastic

The Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL) is a non-governmental organization that uses the power of law to protect the environment, promote human rights, and ensure a just and sustainable society.

With the help of Plastics Solutions Fund, CIEL has launched a project designed to expose and confront the exponential growth in plastics production worldwide.

CIEL is undertaking cutting-edge research and analysis with the goal of increasing corporate accountability (by exposing the links between fossil fuels and plastics to investors and media) and of highlighting hidden risk factors facing major new plastics investments (changing the narrative that plastic will always be abundant, cheap, and profitable). The long-term goal of this project is to change the economic calculus backing capital investments and ensure that global progress on long-term plastics solutions aren’t prematurely stopped or weakened by hidden industry pressure.
