Stopping the Flow of Micro-Plastics Into the Bay of Bengal

Environment and Social Development Organization (ESDO) is a Bangladeshi organization working to spread the message about the need for environmental conservation and to ensure the protection of biological diversity and ecological balance.

Although Bangladesh was the first country to ban single-use plastic bags in 2001, there is no legislation in Bangladesh regarding the growing problem of micro-plastics and mini-packaging pollution. With the help of Plastic Solutions Fund, ESDO is working to reduce and ultimately stop the use of microbeads and single-use plastics, and to stop the flow of this type of pollution into the Bay of Bengal. This project focuses on educating consumers, retailers, wholesalers, and producers about the nature of the problem, include the health and environmental impact of micro-plastics. ESDO is also gathering research to support the project and working to draw the attention of policy-makers to this issue.
