With the Plastic Solutions Fund support, this project aims to support local alliances that are building sustainable zero waste systems in influential U.S. cities and, as well, build collaborative partnerships with aligned U.S. movements. It also seeks to shift the narrative around how and where zero waste is possible in the U.S. to support Break Free From Plastic US’s goal that zero waste is the mainstream approach for city waste management systems.
The project’s premise is that zero waste can pave the way for the development of an economy with clean production and an equitable and closed loop system. In such a system, all materials and products are ultimately reused, repaired, composted, or recycled, and community well-being valued above corporate profit.
The Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives (GAIA) is the fiscal sponsor of this project.
