Zero Waste in Taiwan

In Taiwan, single-use plastics pose a serious threat to the environment, and “the Notorious Five”—packaging (sachets and multi-layered), Styrofoam, thin plastic bags, disposable utensils/straws, and diapers/sanitary products—are not recyclable according to current policy.

Wild @ Heart Legal Defense Association is the only environmental NGO in Taiwan focused on changing both consumer behavior (by advocating a zero-waste lifestyle) and corporate behavior (by putting pressure on companies to stop producing single-use plastics). With the help of Plastic Solutions Fund, Wild @ Heart is working to reduce plastic pollution in Taiwan via a double-headed strategy of increased public awareness and legislation. The goal of this project is to eliminate or reduce to a minimum these top five most ecologically disruptive disposable plastics by the year 2020.
