Defending Democracy in the Deep South

The Alliance to Defend Democracy was established in response to escalating legal attacks on environmental justice leaders who are organizing against petrochemical plants in Louisiana.

The Alliance to Defend Democracy, with Plastic Solutions Fund support, was created to work proactively to safeguard the liberties and safety of those working for environmental justice in Louisiana. They aim to grow and strengthen the alliance into a body that can mobilize quickly to support environmental justice activists when rapid response is needed. Additionally, they will develop legislation and litigation strategies on protecting First Amendment freedoms and keeping environmental justice advocates safe.

This project will be implemented by the Greater New Orleans Interfaith Climate Coalition, Louisiana Bucket Brigade , RISE St.James, 350 New Orleans, No Waste Louisiana and the Green ARMY.
